200th Anniversary Royal National Lifeboat Institution
12 March 2024
To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, a Parade of Sail is scheduled to take place in Weymouth Harbour on Tuesday 14th May.
Vessels taking part will muster in Weymouth Bay before entering the harbour at 18:30, with the Weymouth Severn Class Lifeboat at the head of the Parade. The vessels will transit through the harbour, turning at The Cove, before returning to Weymouth Bay. The Parade is expected to be complete, with all vessels having exited the Outer Harbour, by 19:30.
The Harbour will be closed to all vessel traffic not involved in the event between the Town Bridge and the Harbour Entrance from approximately 18:30 until 19:30. As vessels return to their berths after the Parade, the Town Bridge will remain open for longer than usual to allow all vessels to transit the area safely. Access for vehicles and pedestrians over the Town Bridge will not be possible during this time.
Weymouth Lifeboat is inviting power driven vessels of all shapes and sizes to participate. Any vessels wishing to take part in the Parade should contact Teresa Drage at the RNLI by emailing tdrage69@googlemail.com.
A Local Notice to Mariners with further information will be issued closer to the event.
