Dorset Harbours are seeking your views

Following the formation of the unitary authority of Dorset Council in 2019, the Harbours Committee are looking ahead as to how Weymouth, Bridport (West Bay) and Lyme Regis Harbours will develop over the next 10 years. The Dorset Coast Forum are leading this work on behalf of Dorset Council and want your views and ideas to create a strategy that aligns all three harbours under Dorset Council management while recognising the individual challenges and opportunities for each location.

Recent virtual workshops were held in September for harbour users to have open discussions around the current use, what currently works well, what doesn’t work so well and any ideas people have about what they would want to see happen over the next ten years.

Those same questions are being asked to anyone who wasn’t able to attend the workshops. The survey will be open from 21st September until the 11th October. The results of the consultations will be available after the online surveys close.

Cllr Mark Roberts, Chairman of the Dorset Council Harbours Committee said “It’s vital that we talk to users of all three harbours and the wider community to understand what’s important to them and listen to their ideas. We’ll then start to develop a strategy using what we’ve heard. I look forward to hearing what everyone has to say”

Dorset Coast Forum officers will be working closely with the Dorset Harbours Committee and stakeholders to develop a strategy using a bottom-up approach to ensure it reflects the needs and aspirations of the communities but also reflects the priorities of the Dorset Council.

Dorset Coast Forum is an independent neutral partnership organisation who work to promote the social, economic and environmental benefits of the Dorset coast and the surrounding seas.
